چکیده

Theory of constraints (TOC) is a management philosophy that seeks to increase throughput (efficiency or performance) of the system by identifying those processes that are constraining the system bottlenecks. There have been very few profound studies of TOC in health care systems. In order to fill this gap, this study was conducted to determine how healthcare systems are utilizing components of TOC to schedule operations and what results are being obtained. This is done by using a patient flow model for a radiotherapy section of a hospital. The drum-buffer-rope (DBR) was used as the methodology for scheduling this flow. Successful outcomes obtained by proposed model improved the efficiency and quality of radiotherapy treatment.

Improving for Drum_Buffer_Rope material flow management with attention to second bottlenecks and free goods in a job shop environment

Drum–Buffer–Rope is a theory of constraints production planning methodology that operates by developing a schedule for the system’s first bottleneck. The first bottleneck is the bottleneck with the highest utilization. In the theory of constraints, any job that is not processed at the first bottleneck is referred to as a free good. Free goods do not use capacity at the first bottleneck, so very...

Production Planning and Control in Flow Shop Operations using Drum Buffer Rope Methodology: A System Dynamics Approach

This paper aims to introduce System Dynamics (SD) in applying Drum Buffer Rope (DBR) methodology of Theory of Constraints (TOC) in a three-stage flow shop system that produces a single product. To the best of our knowledge, although there are a lot of TOC applications using discrete simulation in production scheduling with DBR methodology, there are not any TOC application of DBR methodology in...

APPLICATION OF THEORY OF CONSTRAINTS ON SCHEDULING OF DRUM-BUFFER-ROPE SYSTEM S.S.Mahapatra

The successful enterprises deliver products and services in shorter throughput time and turnover inventory as quickly as possible. Three important approaches to achieve these goals are Materials Requirements Planning (MRPI, MRPII), Just-in-Time (JIT), and Theory of Constraints (TOC). TOC seems to be a viable proposition because it does not require costly affair of system change; rather it is si...

A Multi-Objective Optimization Approach Using Genetic Algorithms for Quick Response to Effects of Variability in Flow Manufacturing

This paper exemplifies a framework for development of multi-objective genetic algorithm based job sequencing method by taking account of multiple resource constraints. Along this, Theory of Constraints based Drum-Buffer-Rope methodology has been combined with genetic algorithm to exploit the system constraints. This paper introduces the Drum-Buffer-Rope to exploit the system constraints, which ...

Using simplified drum-buffer-rope for re-entrant flow shop scheduling in a random environment

The traditional simplified drum buffer rope (SDBR) does not consider the application of re-entrant flow shop (RFS) in a random environment which might involve variable processing times and machine breakdowns. This paper proposed a weighted layer production buffer and weighted production buffer to monitor the status of the buffer deviation when applying SDBR in a RFS with non-deterministic param...
